Episode 75: How to Bring Star Trek Back to TV

And just like that, Transporter Room 3 hits a milestone -- our 75th episode! That means we’re just four shows away from logging more episodes than The Original Series. Herbert!

Actually, not Herbert. Because we did things in style for this special episode, starting with a visit from our friend and Star Trek guru Jordan Hoffman. Renowned throughout the quadrant for his Trek knowledge -- but mostly his ability to sling puns -- Jordan regales us with tales from the Trek convention circuit and that time he heckled J.J. Abrams…

not-herbert

But our main focus this week is a discussion of how Star Trek could, should and might return to TV. Which cast would feature in a new show? Would it be the Abramsverse or the old continuity? Is Trek’s best chance at being reborn on TV to actually bypass traditional broadcast and cable and go the Netflix route? We dive deep on this one!

And of course we have a Red Shirt of the Week, and a very unconventional one at that for this doomed crewman somehow lived again. Plus, we have a very special giveaway for our listeners: a chance to win the NX-2000 Excelsior from Star Trek III: The Search for Spock from Diamond Select Toys. This 18-inch long piece features button-activated lights and all-new sound effects and dialogue taken from the film, including lines by the ship's douchey Captain Styles!

nx-2000

Click over to DiamondSelectToys.com to purchase the Excelsior or any of the other ships coming from Diamond this year, including a revamped Enterprise-A, a re-issue of the NX-01 from Enterprise and a TOS Romulan Bird of Prey. They also have the Wrath of Khan Enterprise, the Battle-Damaged Enterprise-B, the Nemesis Enterprise-E, the “All Good Things” Enterprise-D and regular and cloaking Klingon Bird of Preys. But don’t forget to listen to the podcast for your chance to win the NX-2000.

Episode 72: Revisiting Deep Space Nine’s Great Link

Remember that time the Founders were killing Odo softly with their song?

"Broken Link" is as small in scale as you can get with a season finale, but it delivers big emotional punches that rival its more CG-battle friendly peers.

Scott and Phil break down the Odo-heavy Season 4 finale, a sequel of sorts to another Odo-centric ep, Season 3's "The Adversary," and explain why Odo slowly dying makes for one of DS9's best and most underrated hours.

And for one lucky listener, we answer the age-old question: "Should I watch Voyager, or skip straight to Enterprise?"

Also, a resident of the Gamma Quadrant gets fitted for a torpedo coffin as this week's Red Shirt, and Phil gets serious about his "eating disorder."

So join the Great Link and listen now!

And recently, Simon Pegg was brought on to help write a story that, if the rumors are true, could get an assist in the villain department from Bryan Cranston. We take a look at the "end-runaround" that is the threequel’s development, telling you what's what and if you should set your phasers to "worry."

We also dig up another fallen Red Shirt -- this one being the first female ever killed on The Original Series. Who is she? Listen now and find out!

Episode 70: A Star Trek 3 Update and Why You Need to Get Next Generation Season 7 on Blu

It's our season finale, and we've spared no expense!

Last time on Transporter Room 3, Bob Orci beamed out of the director's chair for Star Trek 3, we talked to the galaxy's only omnipotent pain in the neck, Q, and engaged in a battle of wits with a surly oil slick (O.K., not really on that last one)!

A lot can happen in a week: Today we've got an update on Trek 3 (Orci speaks about why he's out, the Internet SO wants Riker in) and a review of the impressive TNG Season 7 Blu-ray set! (Don't think, just Amazon Prime it already!)

530-future-picard

From Ron Moore and Brannon Braga's candid commentary on "All Good Things" to a surprisingly engaging roundtable chat with key crew members from Next Generation, we got the final TNG Blu-ray set covered.

And today's the 16th (!?) anniversary of Star Trek: Insurrection, which flashes us back to a time when aliens chasing a fountain of youth seemed like a good idea.

Also, a well-liked character from Season 7's "Lower Decks" joins our ranks of fallen Red Shirts -- can you guess who?
